My Camp Goals Reflection 2016

WALT: Reflect and state my opinion on Camp Raglan.

Tomorrow we will be traveling to Camp Raglan. We will be staying there for 3 nights and 4 days and I am really looking forward to it. At Camp Raglan we have been organised into teams, I am in CKQ ( Culture Kings & Queens) and our value is T.E.A.M which is "Together Everyone Achieves More". We had to reflect on our Camp Raglan learning and we will also be taking a booklet to extend our learning outside of the classroom.

Yesterday the school went to an event at Sylvia Park called the Manaiakalani Film Festival. Many schools participated in this event and we mixed with our buddy class and travelled along for a great time. I went with my fellow presenters and we all felt so proud to present for our school.

Today I decided to blog about my room, I think why I wanted to blog about this was the fact that im proud, and im glad I created this presentation about redecorating my room. I believe anyone should be able to feel nice within there new sleeping space, it was really soothing and I am so happy with what I have now. It isnt the best looking room but I really enjoy it.

Speech Reflection

The past few weeks I have been working on a speech about my hero AKA Dave Kahika (My Papa) I will be presenting this speech hopefully soon and I am really looking forward to it. Confidence is key, it's one of the best values you can have for yourself and thats what we need. When presenting my speech I will try my hardest, there has been times where I have struggled but I will be explaining how awesome it has been along the way. In my speech I took about how much of a role model he is to me and how and what he has done to make me the person I am today. My highlight in this task was gathering information and memories for my display presentation along with the speech.

Buddy Class Reflection

Today we had an awesome start to the week and bonded really great with the younger students at our school, we had buddy class. Buddy class I think is something every school should do, Making connections with all aged students is challenging but a great way to represent your school.

My Weekend Reflection

In the weekends I did more than just sit on the couch and watch TV, I had a great weekend spent with my best friend (Petra) Laughter, singing, dancing and eating. My highlight was being with her, considering we haven't been together as much lately. It was challenging at times when we would argue but I would rather be arguing with her, other than not talking at all.

Music Reflection

 Today in Music we had just moved on from our last weeks exam, in this lesson we had the opportunity to do our own unique piece of music with the drum sticks and bins. Caleb got us to manage ourselves into our own groups and we could start our jam. There were four groups, two groups of boys, two groups of girls, I was with Ana, Nooroa and Frances. We enjoyed creating different types of beats with each other, we started it of with Nooroa and frances doing the same beat, then I come in with another feeding of the first beat and Ana ends it with an even faster beat. What we did in the end was listen to each others beats in the group and mash them together it sounded really awesome, we extended it with tricks and chants. My highlight was listening to each others music, there were some cultural beats that I had never heard and it was beautiful and a group of boys were funny and confident with their piece. A challenge for me was probably to do my beat while listening to others, but I'm sure I can improve on that quickly.

Magic Square

WALT: Extend our maths learning with new games to play.

Today we were given a maths activity called "Magic Square" the aim of the game is to use numbers from 1-12 and adding it up to 24 going diagonally, across and down.

It was quite challenging because there were so many ways to add up to 24 but the strategy I used was to always think ahead, because the number you use has to be suitable for the next equation.

I went back and made sure every question was correct, each question had to equal 24  and I also had a buddy to check after myself.

The numbers "6, 7 and 10" are the numbers that were placed before I started.

Unlucky Vocal Disaster!!!

UNLUCKY VOICE DISASTER!!!

WALT: Write using our 3 main focus which are punctuation, spelling and grammar.

I had to write a story with a scenario given to me and mine was "waking up with no voice, overnight something happened, write about your story"

“LIANA! Come on, we’ve got to go to the Music Awards” says Kayla “Coming”I reply, I look into the mirror, take a deep breath and think,  this is the day, the day I (hopefully) receive the New Zealand College girl Music award. We drive to the event, as I look out the window I see celebrities, families, supporters and my competition, Jakayla Williams, the all time winning music artist, pretty, talented, “ I love her voice” I scream “Liana, what are you talking about?” says Kayla with a confused tone “NOTHING” I reply “ your sister’s acting a bit weird today sweety! She seems quite timid” the mother replies, “No i’m just really excited.” All the girls are lined up waiting for the glory, I see my friends smirk faces in the audience, we all shiver with impatience, the host walks up and says “And the award goes to…. Liana Matthews! Congratulations, how does it feel to win the New Zealand College girls music award?” said the host, “It feels great, I’d like to thank my supporters especially my parents, without them I wouldn’t be where I am right now, Thank you.”

“Wohoo! It’s time to celebrate!” yells Taya, “Congratulations Liana, on behalf of all the girls here tonight we want so say we love you and will support you with your music no matter what” Kayla says “Thank you so much girls, I’m so thankful for this gift, and i’m glad I had the opportunity to participate in the collegiate girls music awards of 2016, Now let’s party!” The girls grab their food and beverages and snuggle up to watch a movie, after the movie we decided we needed more people to hang with.  So I called all the girls that I knew from the competition and invited them over. Jade Lewis, the High Pitch Angel, Chrissy Cullen, the stunning songwriter, Tasha the instrument champion, Tia & Nia Wilson, the strong harmony twin sisters, and Jakayla Williams the former winner of the Music Awards. The girls came over and we had pizza’s delivered, we played some games, had a quick sleep and went out for a stroll to the night carnival. We saw amazing things, we saw people doing cultural performances, Dance crews and best of all FOOD. Tia and Nia brought us hot foods, Jakayla bought the drinks and I got the dessert. We took our food home and fell straight to sleep.

When I woke up I was so hyped for today, my video shoot will be happening and I can meet my musical inspirations. I got up and noticed  Jade, Jakayla and Tasha were gone, they left a note saying they were gone for a walk. So I went to go have a shower, clean up a little and make a nice, healthy breakfast for the girls. I went to go into the room suddenly a snake jumped out of the bed, I SCREAMED AS LOUD AS I COULD, then came to find it was as silent as ever, I tried screaming again and again, Tia, Nia and Chrissy were sound asleep. I pushed and tumbled the girls round and round till they would wake up “LIANA WHAT DO YOU WANT?!?!” yells Chrissy I muck about, twist and turn and they still don’t understand, I run and get a paper and explain to them that I had lost my voice. Jakayla, Tasha and Jade come back and the girls explain to them what had happened. We couldn’t seem to figure out what had happened, My voice never gets lost so easily, I must have swallowed something overnight, neither of the other girls lost their voice though, I’m starting to have second thoughts on who I invited to this sleepover.

I need to get my voice back, I have a video shoot to attend today. I get in my car and drive to the doctors, when I am in the waiting room a couple of young intermediate looking girls come up to me and start complimenting my voice “your voice is so brilliant, I hope someday I can be as good as you” I use actions to thank them and explain how I lost my voice. They understand eventually and ask the receptionist if I could have an appointment, Luckily they had one patient that cancelled their appointment and I could go in, I went in and the doctor said “I’ve had a good check and its seems to be fine, nothing is wrong with you vocals... TO BE CONTINUED

Rad Rhythm Reflection

WALT: Reflect on our learning

Today in the last block Caleb came to our classroom and asked if we would like to do a music lesson, because of the swimming sessions we missed our lesson due to time and the fact that all of the year 8's missed the session last week, fortunately the last block we were free.

First we started with a game called "Don't clap this one back" as a warm up and we went away and got our bins, lids and two drumsticks. Then we split the class based on the first letter of your name from A-K, then we did team 1 VS team 2 I was in team 1. We had to beatbox and whatever group was louder they won, The team I participated in won :) thanks to our loud mouths. After that we played leap frog, we put the bins into lines and paired up, we played three beats and on the fourth we had to jump over the bin. I really enjoyed our lesson and i'm glad  we will be continuing these lessons.

Swimming Lessons

Today Room 9 had the opportunity to swim at the panmure pools during school hours. At morning tea most of the students in Room 9 got changed into their togs and were getting organised for the fantastic swimming lesson, we jumped onto the bus with room 5 and had a fun, loud and crazy ride. 

They put us into groups, I was with Toni, Hereani, Irys and Kahlicia we were taught . At first for our swimming lesson we practised the basics, we did breaststroke, freestyle, backstroke and dolphin dive, they then decided if we needed to move into different groups

Me and Kahlicia then moved into a more advanced group and we focused on the speed and tidiness of our swimming, My favourite is freestyle

Next week I will be working on my breathing when swimming. I am looking forward to it next week because we will be swimming 6 lengths

Maths - Wine Gum Equation

Kiwi Can Reflection

Today Room 9 went down into the music room first thing this morning for Kiwi Can. 
In Kiwi Can we learn about special values, and how and why we should use it, our value today was problem solving.

What I liked about our Kiwi Can session today was that we did a fun activity where we had to get into groups and create a skit about problem solving. In my group was Frances, Gary, Ana, Jason and Toni we decided to do a role play about spreading rumours and fights. We had Ana spreading a rumour about Frances talking negatively about Toni towards Jason, Toni eventually heard the rumor and started to fight Frances, me and Gary stopped the fight and it was all sorted.

There was one point in the Kiwi Can session where we had to disguise your voice and say "Usain Bolt is the champ again" It was fun but I think I need to work on my different types of voices.

WALT: Reflect and share my story

This is just a preview of my story, Last term we had the opportunity of sharing our story, unfortunately we did not complete it and I have decided to narrow it down and share with you a little bit about me.
I will be posting some more post based on me later on.  Please enjoy :D

What kind of reader am I?

What kind of reader am I?

I am the type of reader that likes comedy, non-fiction and fiction, I enjoy Captain Underpants, Dear Dumb Diary, The Diary of the Wimpy kid and The BFG. Comedy books are the type of books that will get me hooked in right away along with a bit of sassy drama.

My Favourite authors are Roald Dahl and Dav Pilkey. Roald Dahl is such an inspiration for children, I find him so artistic he said exactly “If you have good thoughts they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely." Fun fact about Roald Dahl is 10% of his income goes towards Roald Dahl's Marvelous Children's Charity. I also Love Dav Pilkey, I love his creative series of Captain Underpants and Dumb Bunnies. He has been influenced by Dr Seuss, Marc Chagall and Vincent Van Gogh. The reason why Dav Pilkey’s name is spelt the way it is, is because when he worked at Pizza Hut the “e” was taken from his name tag.  

I think reading is very important, reading will extend your prior knowledge and help you in the future with your learning. You need to know how to read because there are going to be a lot of moments where you are going to have to read at some point in your life. Reading is fun, some books inspire you to write, Benjamin Franklin once said “Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing.” In conclusion I am the type of reader that loves to read.

Today in class I went scrolling through my folders to complete unfinished work and have it blogged, I am not quite sure when I started this piece of writing but I am glad to have it completed. Basicly I am describing what kind of books and authors I like and a hint of quotes and facts. I will hopefully be blogging a lot more for the rest of this year.
